Our Bootcamps
Allelon's STEM bootcamps are carefully-designed to create memorable, creative experiences for children and young people. Tackling something entirely new, the bootcamp attendees will face
challenges, build perseverance and relish accomplishment, all the while developing relationships with people from your church. Our bootcamps are designed to incorporate a Gospel encounter,
supported by Christian values and ethics throughout.
Our Project Developer
Adam Oellermann is an accredited Baptist minister who entered the ministry following a successful 20-year career in the high-tech world of software consultancy.
Over the course of his ministry, Adam has been able to use his technical background and continuing interest in software development, electronics and CAD design to put together STEM "bootcamp" experiences for children and teenagers. These have had a tremendous impact in church- and school-based contexts. Allelon (the Koine Greek word for "one another") was conceived to help other churches use some of these experiences as part of their outreach and growth plans.
How We Engage with Churches
Allelon exists to help churches build Kingdom connections with young people. Our projects are well-suited to groups of 8-20, allowing for plenty of interaction without overwhelming
the project leaders. Depending on your church's situation and resources, we engage with churches in several different ways:
- Allelon-Run Bootcamp: we can run a bootcamp day for your young people in your own church setting. We provide all the project components and expertise to make for a successful event, and members of your church team
get involved with meeting and helping young people - building connections and relationships. It is often very helpful and can help keep costs down if your church is able to provide hospitality
(eg lunch and snacks) for the attendees. We are more than happy to offer advice and suggestions for follow-up activities which can help your church grow the connections after the event.
- Church-Run Bootcamp: If you have church members with the necessary skills, we can provide training for your team who can run the event themselves. We can provide affordable kits for the project
you select, or Bill-of-Materials, our custom software and 3D models if you would prefer to put your own kits together. This approach can be cost-effective if you are looking to reach larger
numbers of young people.
- Equipping Youth for Outreach: we have had great success enabling church youth groups (secondary school aged young people) run bootcamps for primary school aged children. We can provide training
for your youth group, support for the event on the day if required, and affordable kits for the selected project. We love this approach, is it helps build intergenerational connections, makes
connection with children and helps teenagers grow in discipleship.
- Allelon Bursaries: we are also able to offer a small number of bootcamp experiences for churches with very constrained resources who have struggled to find funding, but still have a vision to
develop new connections with local young people. As a small organisation, our ability to offer this is limited by our own resources, and we are thankful to the churches who make this possible.
